Beneficial Effects on Brainwaves: Murphy’s Natural Hemp Water-Soluble CBD/Curcumin

Before and After Using Murphy’s Natural Hemp Water-Soluble CBD/Curcumin

Murphy’s Natural Hemp teamed with an FDA approved lab to run a case-study using the qEEG test in order to measure the effects our CBD/Curcumin product has on the brain.  During this particular case study, there appeared a consistent drop in wave Z-scores across all areas of the brain, especially in Delta, and Theta waves (illustration below).  A reduction in Z-score is an indicator of a reduction in the symptoms associated with the particular brain wave.

Before & After Images

The first image shows a Delta brainwave Z-score of 7.8 before the use of Murphy’s Natural Hemp Water-Soluble CBD/Curcumin, which according to the lab indicates that this patient could be experiencing increased symptoms with Fibromyalgia, migraine, thinking or focusing, ADHD, and more.

Now compare this with the second image of the Delta brainwaves after the use of Murphy’s Natural Hemp Water-Soluble CBD/Curcumin.  The Z-score has decreased to 3.9!  Remember a decrease in Z-score is a decrease in symptoms!  The physician who conducted this test was very impressed with the results.

Theta brainwaves also showed a reduction before and after the use of Murphy’s Natural Hemp CBD/Curcumin tincture, from 7.2 to 4.0.   This is good news for individuals looking for natural alternatives to prescription medications.  A brief explanation of brainwave categories follows, along with the lab’s amazing summary video.

What are the categories of brainwaves & how are they measured?

Brainwaves are produced by repetitive patterns in the brain generated by our neurons communicating with each other.   Over the course of a 24-hour period, an individual will have a mix of brainwaves throughout all the different areas of the brain.  The speed of how fast waves travel, which is measured in Hertz (Hz), divides the waves into categories, fast to slow, depending on what the brain is doing:

— Gamma is the high-performance wave that helps process information quickly.  Its frequency range is 40 to 100 Hz.  High levels of Gamma waves indicate excessive levels of anxiety and stress, low levels may be indicators of depression, ADHD, and learning challenges.

— Beta is the at-work and alert wave that allows you to focus and solve problems.  Its frequency is 12 to 40 Hz.  High levels may indicate anxiety, not being able to relax, increased stress, and adrenaline highs.  Low levels may be indications for depression, poor cognitive ability, brain-fog, and lack of attention.

— Alpha waves are indicators of the relaxed or reflective state.  The frequency range is 8 to 12 Hz.  If there are high levels of Alpha waves, there could be an inability to focus, letting the mind drift into constant daydreaming, or being overly relaxed.  Low levels are indicators of anxiety, OCD, and stress.

— Theta waves are the drifting off feeling drowsy waves you feel when slowing down, relaxing or meditating.  Its frequency is 4 to 8 Hz.  High levels are indicators of ADHD, hyperactivity, impulsiveness, inability to focus and depression.  Low levels may indicate anxiety, stress, and emotional challenges.  Theta waves are also associated with a lack of understanding with social cues, Dyslexia (L brain), and Fibromyalgia.

— Delta waves are deep sleep waves that contribute to restorative REM sleep and assist in building a healthy immune system.  Their frequency is 0 to 4 Hz.  High levels of Delta waves could indicate brain injuries, learning problems, severe ADHD, and the inability to think or focus.  Low levels indicate the inability for the brain and body to revitalize due to poor sleep.  Delta waves are also associated with migraine and Fibromyalgia.

How do brainwaves appear on a Brain Map?

Using the Quantitative EEG or qEEG test, it is possible to measure neural patterns to see how the brain is functioning.  Results from a qEEG are presented as Z-scores.  These scores represent the difference in wave frequency using before and after snapshots.  The Z-scores are color-coded to show increased or decreased activity.  For instance, a score of 0 represents the norm and is color-coded green, red indicates excessive activity, orange, and yellow lessor activity, and blue shows decreased activity.

The following video with the FDA approved lab physician provides a 15-minute summary explaining the process, measurements, and remarkable results.

qEEG “Brain Map” results: Murphy’s Natural Hemp CBD & Curcumin lowers z-scores! (what’s a z-score? read on)

How does CBD impact brainwaves?

Murphy’s Natural Hemp teamed with an FDA approved lab to measure the effects our CBD/Curcumin product has on the brain… and the results are amazing!  Watch the case study video that follows this brief explanation.  First, what is a qEEG, how is it done, and what can it show?

What is a qEEG?

You’ve most likely heard of an EEG or Electroencephalography.  The test measures the electrical patterns at the surface of the scalp, which reflects your brainwaves.  A qEEG or Quantitative Electroencephalogram goes further, measuring and analyzing electrical activity, creating a brain map of the activity, or a topical snapshot of brain patterns.  There are a number of studies published in the US National Library of Medicine suggesting that these maps can help aid in evaluating a number of medical conditions.

How is the test done?

An electro cap, containing small electrodes is placed on the head to measure the electrical patterns while the patient sits quietly with eyes open or closed.  For this particular test data was captured before the use of the product and after taking the Murphy’s Natural Hemp CBD/Curcumin complex.  Beta, Alpha, Theta, Delta, and Gamma waves were measured both before and after the use of the product. Below is one of the images taken from the results.

Brain Wave picture

What did the qEEG Comparison Report show in brainwave activity before and after our CBD/Curcumin tincture?

The report shows a significant change in brainwave activity and lowered z-scores after using Murphy’s Natural Hemp CBD/Curcumin tincture.  Z-scores are indicators of activity, with zero being the norm or “mean,” the higher the z-score, the more noteworthy the health condition.  A lower or zero score is optimal.  There are a number of conditions that can be measured with this test, including but not limited to migraines, ADHD, Dyslexia, anxiety and depression, fibromyalgia, neuropathy, impaired memory, and more.

The following video provides a 15-minute summary provided by the lab, explaining the process, measurements, and remarkable results.

The Cannabinoid Wheel

What are Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are the naturally occurring chemical compounds found in the cannabis and hemp plants.  Both plants have been vastly researched and reported as being beneficial for several medical needs, pain, sleep, gastrointestinal illnesses, mood and behavior disorders, neurological disorders and more.  The illustration and key descriptions below provide a guide to the major cannabinoids and how they may prove helpful with a variety of medical conditions.

CBD-THC Medical Use Wheel

The Cannabinoid Wheel Key:

  • Cannabichromene (CBC)
  • Cannabidiol (CBD)
  • Cannabigerol (CBG)
  • Cannabinol (CBN)
  • Cannabidiolic Acid (CBDA)
  • Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)
  • Tetrahydrocannabinolic (THCA)
  • Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV)

Just like THC and CBD, Cannabichromene or CBC comes from the stem of the cannabis plants cannabigerol acid (CBGA).  It is produced through heat or ultraviolet light.  Getting techie here, so we’ll move on to the benefits.  CBC does not get the user high and has shown potential in treating pain, inflammation, and acne.  Studies are being conducted on its benefits in treating cancer and depression.

Cannabidiol or CBD is harvested from both the cannabis and hemp plants.  It is known largely for anxiety and pain relief as well as muscle-relaxing properties.  As an isolate without the THC component, CBD becomes a non-psychoactive compound, producing zero to .03 percent THC.  In addition, studies have shown this cannabinoid can be beneficial for a number of health conditions, in particular, inflammation reduction, treatment for pain, combating arthritis, reducing anxiety, treating sleep disorders and more.  Research and clinical studies continue, so it looks as though there will be more information regarding practical and medicinal uses with this natural remedy in the future.

Cannabigerol or CBG is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid much like CBD.   It is produced when the heat is applied to cannabigerol acid.  I know, getting super-technical again.  The short story is that this is proving effective as a pain reliever, anti-convulsive, as a sleep aid, an anti-inflammatory and increases appetite.  There is a wide variety of research, as well as several articles available to find out more about how this cannabinoid works with each health challenge, on the Internet and in the National Library of Medicine.

Cannabinol or CBN is a result of THC being exposed to oxygen over a period of time.  Simply, cannabis left out in the open is more likely to have higher levels of CBN.  Studies show CBN’s properties benefit those dealing with pain, insomnia, inflammation, and lack of appetite.  Additional research is being conducted with this cannabinoid as an anti-consultant and anti-bacterial component.

Cannabinoids actually begin as cannabinoid acids (CBDA) that are activated when they’re heated.  Although research is minimal, early lab studies show Cannabidiolic acid or CBDA is a potent compound that may help with inflammation, nausea and vomiting, and as an anti-cancer agent.  Ongoing studies are being conducted.

THC, the main psychoactive component of the cannabis plant, is the primary cannabinoid responsible for creating the high associated with recreational cannabis use.  A variety of studies have shown that THC may help deal with a number of medical challenges such as the side effects of chemo, lessening tremors due to spinal injuries, nausea, and vomiting, digestive health, chronic pain, and inflammation.

Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid or THCA is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid.  It is the acidic form of THC.  Individuals have shared how they’ve experienced relief in symptoms due to inflammation, arthritis, lupus, muscle spasms, and pain.  In addition, an international study reports that THCA may be helpful for patients living with MS, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and Alzheimer’s disease. (1)   Ongoing studies are being conducted.

Tetrahydrocannabivarin or THCV has psychoactive effects like THC.  It may be useful in treating anxiety and panic attacks, as an appetite suppressant, and may help with diabetes.  From what I could gather in the available research and articles, there are low amounts of this compound in the general cannabis plant.  So before purchasing, read up on which plants will produce a generous amount of THCV to get the desired effect.

Murphy’s Natural Hemp Combines CBD With Curcumin

Murphy’s Natural Hemp takes the highest quality CBD cannabinoid and combines it with the holistic spice remedy Curcumin.  Curcumin, one of the main ingredients of turmeric powder, is harvested from the turmeric plant by grinding up its root.  In addition to being a spice used in cooking, Curcumin is also proving effective as an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever, as well as showing promising effects in patients with ulcers, arthritis, irritable bowel, psoriasis, lupus, and more.  Further studies are being conducted on the benefits of curcumin for reducing the progression of Alzheimer’s and improving the heart and circulatory system.

Murphy’s Natural Hemp water-soluble CBD products are sourced in the U.S., produced with the highest quality ingredients, and are continually tested to be sure they meet our standards.

Water-Based CBD

CBD tincture-bottle-600x600-1Oil-based CBD does not dissolve in water.  Oily substances are repelled by water, which forces the separation of the ingredients.  However, you’ll find the term “water-soluble” is being widely used throughout the medical cannabis industry.  What water-soluble means is that the CBD can blend into water, like sugar in your lemonade or coffee.  Water-based and oil-based products react differently when it comes to being absorbed by the body.  Your body is composed of over 60% water.  Reports show that the body uses less than 10% of the active ingredients in an oil-based product.  Compare this to our water-soluble products, which utilize 90% or more of the active ingredients.  For more information or to purchase Murphy’s Natural Hemp, go to
